Marriage Licenses
To get a marriage license in Van Buren County, visit the County Clerk’s Office at the Courthouse, 212 Paw Paw Street. We accept applications from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
Requirements
- Start your application online at our website .
- Anyone 18 or older can marry in Michigan without parental consent.
- Residency is based on your current valid driver’s license or state ID with your address:
- If one or both are Michigan residents, apply in the county where either lives. The license is valid statewide.
- If both are out-of-state residents, apply in the county where you plan to marry. The license is valid only in that county.
- Both applicants must provide:
- Valid driver’s license or state ID with correct address
- Certified birth certificates
- Full name, birth date, and place of birth (city and state)
- Complete address (no P.O. Boxes)
- Number of previous marriages
- Social Security Numbers
- Parents’ full birth names and states of birth
- Fee per couple: $20 for Van Buren County residents; $30 for out-of-state residents.
- If one or both are Michigan residents, apply in the county where either lives. The license is valid statewide.
- If both are out-of-state residents, apply in the county where you plan to marry. The license is valid only in that county.

Van Buren County residents can pay by cash or card.
Additional Information
- The license is valid on the 3rd day after application.
- Marriage must occur within 33 days of application.
- Additional information or documents may be needed to complete the application.
