Summer Taxes
The State Education Tax (SET) became a summer tax in July 2003, and the County Allocated millage followed in July 2007.
Summer taxes are mailed by July 1 and are due by September 14 to avoid penalties. Due dates may vary in some cities. Only Township, City, and County Treasurers can collect SET or County Allocated taxes.
You can pay summer taxes from July 1 to February 28 at your Township or City Hall.
For properties in villages other than Paw Paw, Lawton, or Mattawan, two bills are due by September 14. The Summer bill is payable to your Township Treasurer, and Village Taxes to your Village Treasurer. In Paw Paw, Lawton, and Mattawan, the Township collects both taxes. Breedsville, Decatur, and Lawrence villages collect taxes until February 28. After September 15, Bloomingdale village taxes are payable to the County Treasurer.
Tax Deferment
Eligible individuals can defer Summer taxes to February 14th and Winter taxes to April 30th. This applies to seniors, disabled individuals, and others who have filed for a Michigan Property Tax Homestead Credit but haven’t received their check. For more details, see the application link below.
