The Van Buren County Mounted Division started in 1964. Our members support the Sheriff’s road patrol with a two-person unit on Saturday nights and provide extra help when needed. They also assist in searching for missing people, protecting crime scenes, and more. Over the years, our Mounted Division has proudly represented the Sheriff’s Office at the Van Buren County Youth Fair and in many holiday parades.
Member Training
All members must complete annual training set by the Sheriff’s Office for Reserve Officers. They also attend a Reserve Officer Certification program. Members can join the Great Lakes Law Enforcement Academy for further training.
Mount Requirements
Horses must be healthy, gentle, and able to handle parades and crowds. They can attend the Great Lakes Mounted Law Enforcement Academy and must participate in annual conditioning for events.
