Death Certificates

Death records in Van Buren County are available from the County Clerk’s Office starting in 1867.

Request Online

To request a certified copy of a death record online, please use our Online Vital Record Request Form.

Request by Mail

To request a certified copy by mail, print the order form below or send a letter with:

  • Name of the deceased at the time of death
  • Approximate date of death (within 5 years)
  • Appropriate fee (check or money order)

Fees

The fees for a certified copy are:

  • $15 for the first certified copy
  • $5 for each additional certified copy

Make checks or money orders payable to County Clerk. Please do not send cash through the mail.

If any required information is missing, your request will be returned for completion.

In Person

The Clerk’s Office is open Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM, except on federal holidays. We accept cash, checks, credit or debit cards, and money orders.
