The Van Buren County Drain Commissioner invites you to a Day of Review for the Evans Drain. This is your chance to review the drainage district boundaries and the proposed apportionment of benefits for each parcel and municipality. You can find a map of the proposed changes on the Drain Commissioner’s website.

Our team, including the Drain Commissioner and engineers, will be available all day to assist you. You don’t need an appointment. You’ll also find information on the costs for the drain, which are collected like property taxes and will appear on your Winter Tax bill. If assessments are spread over multiple years, you can pay in full at any time to avoid extra interest.

If you need accommodations to participate, please contact us at the number above or through the Michigan Relay Center at 7-1-1 (TDD) at least 24 hours before the event.

You can submit comments on the apportionment of benefits in writing before the Day of Review to the Van Buren County Drain Commissioner at 219 E. Paw Paw Street, Paw Paw, MI 49079, or by email at draincommissioner@vanburencountymi.gov. You can also submit comments in person on the day.

The following areas will be assessed: Van Buren County and City of South Haven. Some lands in Section 15, City of South Haven, will be added or removed from the district.

If you wish to appeal the Drain Commissioner’s decisions, you have ten days to do so. Appeals regarding district boundaries go to the Van Buren County Circuit Court, and apportionment appeals go to the Van Buren County Probate Court.
