Lake Levels

The Drain Commissioner manages fifteen lake levels in Van Buren County. These levels are set by the Inland Lake Levels Act, Part 307 of Public Act 451 of 1994. The Dam Safety Act, Part 315 of the same act, requires the Commissioner to maintain all lake levels and structures. Each structure is inspected every three years, and reports are sent to the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality. The last tri-annual dam inspections were completed in December 2023.
