Vacation Property Check
Van Buren County offers property checks for residents who will be away from their homes, businesses, or other facilities for an extended time. Deputies will regularly check the exterior to help prevent break-ins while you’re gone.
What We Check
Our checks include a walkthrough of the exterior to look for:
- Security of windows and doors
- Safety concerns
- Property damage
- Signs of vandalism or intruders
If we find any issues, we’ll notify you or your emergency contact and decide on the best response.
Important Information
- This service is only for unoccupied properties.
- If your property is occupied, please complete the Extra Patrol Form.
- Submit your request at least ten days before you leave to ensure proper scheduling.
- If your plans change and you return early, call the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office at 269-657-2006 to cancel the checks.
Before You Leave
Consider these steps before your trip:
