Van Buren County Animal Control has launched a new partnership with Pets for Patriots, connecting some of our communityβs most overlooked shelter animals with U.S. military veterans and Gold Star spouses. The program opens an opportunity for both pets and people to gain what they need most: stability, companionship, and a chance to heal.
Through this partnership, eligible veterans and Gold Star spouses can adopt select dogs and cats for a reduced $50 adoption fee, including adult pets, long-term shelter residents, special-needs animals, and dogs over 40 pounds. Pets for Patriots provides additional support to make adoption more accessible, offering resources that help keep pets and families together long-term.
For Van Buren County Animal Control, this collaboration reflects an ongoing commitment to finding the right home for every animal in their care. As Kennel Director Magen Spiece puts it, the match between pets and veterans often creates βa strong bond meant to last for yearsβ¦ No one should feel alone, including shelter dogs.β
