Meth Lab Dump Sites

Van Buren County and Southwestern Michigan are facing challenges with methamphetamine labs. Recently, there has also been an increase in heroin and prescription pill use.

The Van Buren County Narcotics Division collaborates with local police and neighboring counties to tackle drug issues. They also work with federal agencies like the DEA and FBI for cases needing federal action.

Meth Lab Trash

The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office receives many reports about meth lab trash found along roads, in fields, and wooded areas. These items become more visible after snow melts.

Common items include plastic bottles used as gas generators, which may be capped or have a tube. Even old-looking bottles can release hazardous gas if moved. Other items include Gatorade bottles used as meth lab vessels, peeled batteries, used coffee filters, drain opener bottles, lye, and camp fuel cans.

These items might be in a trash bag or scattered. They are dangerous and can be caustic and flammable. If you see suspected meth-related items, do not touch them. Avoid opening trash bags found by the road or in fields, as disturbing them can release hazardous gas.
