Standard Recording Requirements

  • Names must be printed or typed below all signatures. MCLA 565.201 (a) (e)
  • No name discrepancies allowed between printed names and signatures. MCLA 565.201 (b)
  • For documents before April 6, 2017, state the marital status of male grantors. MCLA 565.221
  • Include addresses of all parties on documents conveying interest. MCLA 565.201 (a) (f)
  • Document drafter’s name and address must be included. MCLA 565.201 A, 565.203
  • Real estate documents need notary acknowledgment. MCLA 565.8
  • Include a certified death certificate if “survivor” is mentioned. MCLA 565.48
  • Court orders must be certified and sealed. MCLA 565.401, 565.411
  • Ensure space for recording information or pay additional page fee.
  • Page definition: One side of paper, max size 8.5″ x 14″, print not smaller than 10 point. MCLA 565.201 (g)
