Bloomingdale has a rich history, and you can explore it through various sources. The Bloomingdale Depot Museum holds many original documents. To access these, please contact Mrs. Pat Bly in Bloomingdale.
Bloomingdale Township was organized in 1845. The first settlers arrived in 1837, led by the Myers family. The township was originally covered in dense forests, and the soil was fertile, making it ideal for farming.
The village is surrounded by beautiful lakes and has become a popular tourist destination. Early settlers included the Peck family and others who established communities like Pecktown and Bear Lake Mills.
Bloomingdale saw its first industries in lumber and cheese making. Augustus Haven began producing cheese in 1860, and by 1873, cheese production had expanded significantly.
The arrival of the railroad in 1870 spurred growth, and Bloomingdale became a bustling hub. The town experienced several fires but rebuilt and continued to thrive.
In 1938, Bloomingdale experienced an oil boom, drawing people from all over. The town’s population doubled, and the excitement was palpable as oil wells were developed.
Though the boom ended by 1963, it left a lasting impact on the community.
Today, Bloomingdale is home to various small and medium-sized businesses. The community offers services like banking, grocery stores, and more.
The Kal-Haven Trail, a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts, runs through the area, showcasing Bloomingdale’s natural beauty.
