Our county Board of Commissioners is considering several projects that could be managed by the Building Authority. However, after a property tax proposal was not approved by voters on May 2, 2017, the future of these projects is uncertain.
-
New Court Facility
We are exploring the possibility of building a new facility for our court operations. This would enhance security, improve public access, and provide better spaces for juries and attorney-client meetings.
-
Old Sheriff’s House/Jail Removal
If the new court facility is built on the current site of the historic Sheriff’s House and jail, we may need to relocate or remove these structures. Discussions with the Village of Paw Paw and other parties are ongoing.
-
County Administration Building Renovation
We are considering renovating the building at 219 E. Paw Paw Street. This would improve customer service, office efficiency, and security. If the new court facility is built, the Friend of the Court office would move there.
-
Original Courthouse Upgrades
If the new court facility is constructed, we might upgrade the historic courthouse at 212 E. Paw Paw Street. This would support office relocations and discontinue basement office use.
