From the Desk of Sheriff Abbott – 2/13/2026

- Uniform Response handled 764 calls for service in January, with 291 traffic stops. Dispatch took 4,072 calls in January.
- Uniform Response assisted Berrien County with a Pursuit that came into our county involving a Truck that Just was Stolen. The pursuit came to an end in Bangor Township with multiple units around it. The suspect did not cooperate and was tased along with a canine being deployed. He was placed in custody and taken back to Berrien County to face multiple charges.
- Uniform Response was dispatched to a Suspicious Vehicle parked in a driveway with an individual in it. The driver would not exit the vehicle or cooperate with the Deputies on scene. Deputies ultimately extricated the individual from the vehicle. Once secured, a pistol was in found in his waistband. He was lodged on multiple charges for the incident.
- Uniform Response was in dispatched to Pine Grove Township for a BOL (Be on Lookout) Vehicle for a Possible Intoxicated Driver. Deputies found the vehicle, conducted a traffic stop on it due to the driving, and found the driver was indeed intoxicated. An investigation was conducted which led to the driver being lodged on operating under the influence of alcohol 2nd offence and open intoxicants in a motor vehicle. Thank you to the public for calling this in so the driver could be stopped.
- Seasonal Weight Restrictions (Frost Laws) go into effect 6am on Monday, February 16th for the VBC Road System.
- Uniform Response Deputies completed First Aid Training this past week. Deputies reviewed the use of tourniquets, CPR, responding to choking individuals, and other first aid responses set forth by the American Heart Association.
- Our Dive Team did their yearly Ice Dive Training this past week on Lake Brownwood. The dive team trains numerous times a year doing river dives, ice dives, lake dives, and at times pool dives to work on different things related to dives.
- Roses are red, violets are blue, if your ex has a warrant, we’ll come get them for you. On behalf of the Sheriff’s Office, we’ll wish them Happy Valentines Day, so feel free to let us know.
