From the Desk of Sheriff Abbott – 1/9/2026

- Uniform Response handled 700 calls in December, ending the year at 10,088. They had 356 traffic stops in December, ending the year at 4,663. Dispatchers overall call for service in December were 4,994. Overall calls they dispatched out for service ended the year at 65,941. Those calls were for law enforcement, EMS, traffic stops, animal control, fire departments, wreckers, misc. Fun fact about the busiest time for Dispatchers answering the phone is between 12pm-6pm. They average a phone call every 3.9 minutes. The slowest phone answering time is 12am-6am in which they average answering a phone every 15 minutes.
- Our Honor Guard participated in a Wreath Laying Ceremony put on by South Haven PD. SHPD honored Officer Michael McAllister on the 50th anniversary of his Line of Duty Death. It was truly an honor to have our office be a part of the ceremony.
- Uniform Response assisted Lawton PD with a Domestic Violence call in which the Suspect Barricaded Himself in the House. The subject was eventually taken into custody and lodged for the incident.
- A Deputy on patrol in Geneva Township stopped a vehicle for a Traffic Violation. It was discovered that the driver had warrants for his arrest. While he was being placed into custody, he attempted to flee on foot. The Deputy quickly apprehended the suspect. It should be noted that he threw a baggie of meth on the ground while attempting to outrun the Deputy. He now faces more charges than just the two warrants.
- Uniform Response handled an Unwanted Individual at a residence in the Village of Lawrence. The suspect was removed from the residence and trespassed from the location.
- Uniform Response handled a 911 Hangup Call in the City of Bangor. Deputies responded to the location, and it was found that two intoxicated individuals were arguing over a phone.
- Uniform Response handled an Ongoing Threats Complaint in Almena Township. With all the information that is now gathered, it was sent to the Prosecutor’s Office for review.
- Uniform Response Recovered a Stolen Trailer out of Berrien County from an Attempted Sale of it off Marketplace. Deputies went with the victim to meet the seller in Paw Paw Township at a gas station. It was confirmed that it was the stolen trailer. The trailer was turned over to the victim, and an investigation was done how the suspect came into possession of it. Due to some of the information obtained, the report is going to be sent to the Prosecutors office for charges.
