Van Buren Tech Set to Host Annual Mock Disaster Simulation

Van Buren Tech is preparing for one of its most intense and anticipated annual events: the Mock Disaster simulation. On Tuesday, May 12, 2026, students will face a large-scale, high-pressure emergency scenario designed to test their skills in real time.

Real-World Training in Action

The simulation is a collaborative effort between Van Buren Tech students, local emergency responders, industry professionals, and community volunteers. To ensure the most realistic experience possible, students are not informed of the specific disaster scenario in advance. This allows them to practice:

  • Triage and Injury Assessment: Students must quickly evaluate and stabilize “patients”.
  • Scene Management: Coordinating resources and maintaining order in a high-stress environment.
  • Communication: Practicing clear, effective teamwork across different emergency departments.

A Multidisciplinary Effort

The Mock Disaster involves a wide range of Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, highlighting the diverse skills taught at Van Buren Tech. Participating programs include:

  • Healthcare: Patient Care, Allied Health, and Dental Occupations.
  • Specialized Support: Cosmetology students use professional makeup techniques to create realistic injuries and abrasions , while Culinary Arts students also play a vital role in the day’s operations.

Event Schedule & Location

The event will take place at 250 South St., Lawrence, MI, with two primary sessions:

  • AM Scenario: 8:30 AM – 10:00 AM
  • PM Scenario: 12:30 PM – 2:00 PM

Industry professionals and guests are welcome to attend and observe the next generation of first responders and healthcare professionals in action.

RSVP Information: If you plan to attend, please RSVP by May 6 to Mikenzie Chambers, Marketing & Communications Specialist, at mchambers@vbisd.org.
