Home Repair Assistance Available for South Haven Residents!

Great news for homeowners in the City of South Haven and South Haven Township! Lakeshore Habitat for Humanity is currently offering a Home Repair Program backed by “MI Neighborhood” funding from the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA). Whether you are dealing with a leaking roof, a failing furnace, or need accessibility upgrades to stay safely in your home, help is available.

What Projects are Eligible?

The program focuses on essential repairs that improve the safety, accessibility, and energy efficiency of your home. Potential projects include:

  • Critical Repairs: Addressing plumbing hazards, electrical issues, unsecured entries, and heating/cooling systems.
  • Accessibility Improvements: Installing ramps, railings, grab bars, and walk-in showers.
  • Exterior Rehabilitation: Major work such as siding replacement, roofing, and repairing structural damage.

Program Requirements

To qualify for this specific funding, residents must meet the following criteria:

  • Location: Must reside within the City of South Haven or South Haven Township.
  • Occupancy: The home must be owner-occupied.
  • Structure: Must be a single-family structural house (mobile homes are not eligible for this program).
  • Income: Household income must be at or below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI).

Program Requirements

If you’re interested in applying or simply want to learn more about how the program works, join us for a community information session on May 20th.

Lakeshore Habitat for Humanity staff will be on hand to answer questions about the application process and the flexible state requirements associated with this funding. Similar sessions held recently in the City of Allegan were highly successful in helping neighbors start their repair journeys, and we want to ensure South Haven residents have the same opportunity.

How to Get Started

Don’t wait to start the process! Four households are already moving through the assessment and quoting phase!
