Van Buren County is home to a truly special place – the Veterans Therapy Garden in Paw Paw. Located at 801 Hazen Street, this community garden is County-owned property managed through a partnership with Michigan State University Extension (MSUE). It’s a peaceful, accessible space where veterans and their families can garden, reduce stress, and connect with others. The garden is open to the public and it’s a peaceful place for a quiet stroll.
The garden is one example of how the Van Buren County Parks and Recreation Commission works to build community spaces that serve residents in meaningful ways. Skilled volunteers from the MSUE Master Gardeners of Southwest Michigan help keep it thriving.
Now, there’s an opportunity to join this team. MSU Extension is hiring a part-time Horticulture Assistant to help maintain the garden and support its veteran-focused programming. The role includes tasks like planting, garden upkeep, light construction, helping volunteers, and interacting with garden visitors. The application deadline is April 26, 2026.
