Sheriff News Update 8-28-25
- Uniform Response and Detectives from our office handled a Shooting Incident in the Decatur Area. Deputies were dispatched to what was called in as a drive by shooting. The victim was transported to the hospital for his injuries, the suspect/suspects involved fled the scene. Evidence was taken, interviews were conducted, and there is more investigation to be done. Currently, it appears that it’s an isolated incident and no threat to the public. Anyone with any information on this is asked to call our office.
- Uniform Response handled a Larceny Incident in Columbia Township. Three Pelican Brand 10-foot kayaks were stolen from the Coffee Lake area. Two of the kayaks are blue and white, the other one is orange and white. Anyone with information on this is asked to call our office.
- Our Marine Division handled a PWC (Personal Watercraft) in Distress on Lake Michigan. The call came in as a PWC that flipped and was taking on water. Marine Deputy’s responded in our 21-foot boat and our jet ski. The PWC was located as was the rider who was safe aboard on another PWC. The riders and PWC (towed by Deputy’s) were taken back to the harbor in which they were able to get the upside down PWC back upright once back at the boat launch.
- Uniform Response handled a Domestic Violence Incident in the Village of Mattawan. A child in the residence called dispatch advising that her parents are fighting. Deputys responded to the residence, investigated the incident, and arrested the aggressor for domestic assault.
- Uniform Response handled a Police Officer Standby for the Caller to Pick up Property from a Residence in Columbia Township. Once the caller picked up the property, they were taken into custody on an outstanding warrant from another county.
- Uniform Response handled a Domestic Violence Incident in the City of Hartford. After investigating the incident, an individual was lodged for the domestic assault.
- Alyaysia Allen was Honored with a Letter of Commendation this past week. Alyaysia is a resident of the county and was a huge help assisting Deputy’s, Fire Fighters, and EMS in a tragic crash that she drove up on in Bloomingdale Township. There is no doubt in my mind that Alayaysia has a bright future ahead of her.
- Our SRD (School Resource Deputy) in Mattawan handled a Domestic Violence Incident while suspect and victim were in the pickup line for their child. Dispatch received the call from the victim in which our SRD was right there. The male suspect was arrested for the incident.
- Deputy Gabe Weekly was Honored with a Life Saving Award this week. Deputy Weekly was instrumental involving a crash in Bloomingdale Township with the critical patient in saving her life. Once again, his actions show the professional staff we are blessed to have working at our office serving the citizens of Van Buren County.
