Jail Addition & Renovation Project
The Building Authority issued bonds worth $5,150,000, with additional funding from Van Buren County, to expand and renovate the County Jail in downtown Paw Paw. Construction began in March 2017. The General Contractor is Miller-Davis Company from Kalamazoo. Key features of the project include:
- A new booking and holding area that follows best practices for correctional facilities.
- Expanded and reconfigured inmate cells to replace outdated areas in the old jail.
- An updated security system.
- A new and replacement roof for the entire building.
- Major lighting and electrical upgrades.
- Improvements to enhance staff efficiency.
The construction and occupation phases are complete. The focus now is on managing a replacement reserve and the remaining debt. The bonds will be fully paid by October 1, 2036.
