We are thrilled to announce that James “Mike” Toth is officially our new District 5 Commissioner! Following the sad passing of Commissioner Randall Peat, the Board of Commissioners expedited the selection process, and we couldn’t be happier to welcome Mike back to the team. He was officially sworn in on Thursday, March 12, and is jumping right in to serve our community until a successor is elected at the November 3, 2026, General Election.
Commissioner Toth brings an incredible wealth of experience and is a familiar, trusted face in Van Buren County government. He previously served as the District 5 Commissioner for 10 years and has remained deeply involved in the community, currently sitting on the 911 Board, the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) Board, and the Van Buren County Mental Health Board.
Professionally, Mike is enjoying retirement after a highly successful 42-year career in the insurance industry, where he spent 12 years with AAA and 30 years with the Michigan Farm Bureau. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Michigan State University.
Please join us in giving an enthusiastic welcome back to Commissioner Toth!
