SHERIFF NEWS RELEASE – Phone Scam

PHONE SCAM

The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office is again continuing to warn residents about a phone scam where callers impersonate law enforcement officers and claim the person has outstanding arrest warrants.

Recent victims are instructed to purchase Green Dot prepaid cards and transfer money to untraceable accounts—often outside the U.S.

Law enforcement will never call to demand money or payment for warrants. Anyone receiving such a call should hang up and contact their local agency using a verified phone number.
