NATURE OF INCIDENT: Semi versus SUV personal injury crash

LOCATION: M-51 Hwy and 46th St, Hamilton Township, Van Buren County

NARRATIVE:

Sheriff Daniel Abbott reports that on the above date and approximate time, deputies responded for a report of a two vehicle personal injury crash with entrapment. Deputies responded with the Decatur-Hamilton FD and located a SUV with heavy front end and driver side damage. The driver of the vehicle was entrapped and Decatur-Hamilton FD was able to assist in extricating her from the vehicle. Another adult occupant and an infant were able to exit the vehicle and were uninjured.

The initial investigation determined that a semi tractor pulling a double trailer had crossed the center line at a curve in the roadway while traveling westbound on M-51. The SUV was traveling eastbound on M51 when the semi trailer entered it’s travel lane. The semi trailer collided with the front driver side area of the SUV, causing heavy damage. The driver of the SUV was transported via ambulance to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo in critical condition with serious injuries.

The other occupants were uninjured and the driver of the semi was uninjured. The cause of the crash is being investigated. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office.
