MOTORCYCLE CRASH RESULTS IN LIFE-THREATENING INJURIES IN COLUMBIA TOWNSHIP

Van Buren County Sheriff Abbott reports that deputies responded to a serious motorcycle crash at approximately 8:55 p.m. on September 12, 2026, on County Road 681, just south of County Road 380 in Columbia Township.

An 18-year-old male and a 12-year-old male were traveling northbound on County Road 681 on a mini bike that did not have lights or reflectors.

Three motorcycles traveling northbound approached the mini bike from behind. One of the motorcyclists, a 36-year-old male, struck the mini bike. The impact caused the mini bike to come up in front of the motorcycle, striking the motorcyclist and causing him to be thrown from his motorcycle.

The 36-year-old male was transported to Bronson Methodist Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The 18-year-old and 12-year-old males riding the mini bike were transported by Life EMS for treatment of minor injuries.

The crash was investigated by the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from Columbia Township Fire and Rescue, Life EMS, and the Bangor Police Department.

At this time, speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.

The investigation remains ongoing.
