From the Desk of Sheriff Abbott – 7/24/2026

  • Uniform Response stopped a vehicle for a High Rate of Speed near the fairgrounds while the fair was going on. The driver was found to be driving while intoxicated. The driver was lodged for the incident.
  • While Deputies were dealing with the above Intoxicated Driver, another vehicle pulled up to the Traffic Stop. That driver was found to be operating while intoxicated and was in possession of a firearm as well. That driver now faces those charges after being lodged for them.
  • Uniform Response handed a Bitcoin Scam that happened in Bloomingdale. The Victim was scammed out of 9 thousand dollars. The case remains open pending further investigation.
  • It has been a great week out at the fair so far, and it has been nice being able to speak with so many people. It has been a great turnout once again and awesome to see so many people out supporting our youth. Thank you to all the volunteers, fair board, mounted division, reserve division, uniform response division, fire departments, and everyone else that participated to make the week a success. A huge shout out to all the kids that participated and the parents for everything they’ve done with their kids to participate. All your time and dedication don’t go unnoticed, so thank you for that.
  • Uniform Response handled a Hit & Run Crash in Columbia Township. A bicyclist ran a stop sign and was hit by a vehicle downtown Grand Junction. The car that hit him fled from the scene. The vehicle is believed to be a 2012-2014 Subaru Impreza, silver in color. The bicyclist was transported to the ER with an arm injury and a concussion. Anyone with information is asked to call our office.
  • Uniform Response handled a Car vs Tree Minor PI Accident in Antwerp Township. The driver ran a stop sign, went off the roadway, and hit a tree. The driver was arrested for operating under the influence of alcohol.
  • Uniform Response handled a MDOP incident in Geneva Township. An ex-girlfriend came to the residence; spray painted and damaged a significant amount of property. Once the investigation is complete, the report will be sent to the Prosecutors Office for charges.
  • Our Public Safety Milage Renewal is on the Ballot in the August Primary Election. It is simply a renewal to keep it in place. This money is used to fund 18 Deputies and half the wages to our FIOA Coordinator. The money also covers the subscription to combat child sex exploitation training, our canines, and a lot of narcotics investigative equipment.  The milage is used 100 percent for our office. This milage is huge for our office and huge to keep our public safety in place to keep our county a safe place to live. I humbly ask everyone to please continue to renew the milage for those reasons and more.
  • Our Office of Domestic Preparedness disperses Emergency Weather Radios which are Funded Through Grants. This past week, they delivered and set one up for an elderly care facility in Covert. This has been a good resource for the community so they can get immediate alerts when bad weather, a tornado, or anything weather related is getting ready to happen.
