From the Desk of Sheriff Abbott – 4/2/2026



  • Uniform Response Stopped a Vehicle for an Improper Plate in Keeler Township. The investigation found that the vehicle had been stolen out of Benton Harbor. The driver from Niles was lodged for the vehicle and possession of meth. The passenger had a warrant and was lodged as well.
  • Our Dive Team Recovered a Stolen Vehicle out of Our County which was Stolen October 2025. The location was right off the Wolf Lake Public Access. A Sgt received information from a friend fishing that there appears to be a vehicle he marked on his Garmin Live Scope sonar from his fishing boat. The dive team dove the sight given and recovered the stolen vehicle.
  • Uniform Response handled a Stolen Scrap Metal call in Almena Township. The suspects entered the property in the late hours and stole a large amount of scrap metal from an abandoned trailer being tore down. Deputies are working on identifying the three suspects that were caught on surveillance camera.
  • Uniform Response took a Runaway complaint in Geneva Township. The 15-year-old male left believed to hang out with a girl in another county as there was no altercation or animosity in the house prior to him leaving. He did return home the next day.
  • Our Narcotics Unit got a TIP about a Location of a Parole Absconder. They were able to locate the individual and arrest him on the Parole Absconding Warrant. He was also wanted for an MDOP(Malicious Destruction of Property) in which they lodged him for that as well.
  • Uniform Response handled a Larceny of Several Walnut Trees in Hartford Township. The owners of the property were out of town when the trees were cut down and removed. A white truck was saw in the area about the time it took place. Anyone with any information is asked to call our office.
  • Uniform Response Stopped a Vehicle for a Traffic Violation in Bloomingdale. The Deputy immediately noticed multiple empty beer cans on the floorboard and smelled intoxicates coming from the driver. An OWI(operating while intoxicated) investigation took place, and the driver was arrested for operating under the influence of alcohol 3rd offence.
  • Uniform Response handled a Domestic Violence incident in Paw Paw Township. The investigation found that the victim was stabbed(non-life threatening) by the suspect during the altercation. The suspect was lodged for the incident and the victim refused medical assistance at the scene.
  • Uniform Response handled an Assault complaint in Hartford Township. The investigation found that a love triangle was taking place and the two males involved with the female got into a physical altercation. The report was sent to the Prosecutor’s Office for review for charges.
  • Uniform Response handled a Self-Inflicted Gun Shot Wound to the Victims Leg in Arlington Township. The investigation found that the victim was in a vehicle with the pistol handling it with his finger on the trigger, hence, it going off. The victim/suspect didn’t have a CPL during the incident and should not have had it in the vehicle unsecured, loaded, and accessible. The victim was transport to the hospital to be treated for the injury. A report was sent to the Prosecutor’s Office for review and charges.
