- I want to Thank Michigan’s Speaker of the House of Representatives Matt Hall for the Special Guest Invite to attend the State of the State Event. I was able to speak with numerous representatives about different topics and interests that would benefit not only our office, but also our community.
- Congratulations to Bailey Kissel for Completing and Graduating from the KVCC Corrections Academy this week. Part of the requirement through the state to work in the corrections division is to complete the mandatory 160 hours corrections academy within a year of being hired.
- There is a scam going on that appears to be from Amazon. The message claims that an item you bought was of poor quality or has been recalled. It also states Amazon will provide you with a full refund and free replacement with a link for you to click on. The link will take you to a fake page that looks real and cybercriminals will steal your credentials at that point. Reminder not to select any links in an unexpected text message. If you believe there’s an issue with your Amazon purchase, navigate through their official website. Lastly, as always if it’s too good to be true, it probably is.
- Uniform Response went through a 6-hour training session for the use of the new Taser 7 Energy Weapons. The training consists of review of Axons training materials which include a PowerPoint presentation, various tabletop and line drills, and different scenario training meant to emulate real world situations where Deputies may be tasked with deploying an energy weapon at a suspect. Deputies have all had taser training in the past, but with the new Taser 7, this training was required.
- Uniform Response handled a Scam in Almena Township. The victim was at work, and a secretary received a phone call from an individual saying they were law enforcement. The victim got on the phone and was advised he missed court and there was a warrant placed on him with a $3,700 bond. The victim left work, drew the money out, and fortunately felt something didn’t seem right about it. He stopped in at our office, and it was confirmed a scam. It’s an open investigation and we are hoping to identify the suspect in this so they can be held accountable. I’d like to remind everyone that we would not call you on something like this, and if there’s ever a question on anything like this, call law enforcement immediately to confirm it’s valid. This victim was close to being scammed out of his money.
- Uniform Response handled a Vehicle Stuck on the Railroad Tracks in Bangor. Deputies once on scene found the driver was highly intoxicated. The vehicle was removed off the tracks, and the incident was investigated further. The driver was arrested for operating under the influence of alcohol and possession of cocaine.
- Uniform Response handled a call in which a 4-year-Old Child Consumed Edible Chocolate Covered Mushrooms in Waverly Township. The child got into the refrigerator where the parent had them and ate some. The child was taken to the ER for treatment. The case is being reviewed by the Prosecutor’s Office for charges and was sent to CPS (Child Protective Services) as well.
