Reserve Application

Program Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Attend the VBC Citizens Police Academy
  • Pass a background and reference check
  • Clear FBI and Michigan fingerprint checks
  • Be in good physical health
  • Complete an interview
  • Limited to 30 members
  • High school diploma required
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Have a Michigan concealed pistol license
  • Hold a valid Michigan driver’s license
  • No history of mental institution commitment
  • No felony or domestic violence convictions
  • Submit an employment application

Training Overview

  • Annual firearms training and qualifications
  • Training on communication equipment, radios, and computers
  • Defense tactics training
  • First aid for professional rescuers
  • Additional training hours
